Marine Corps Base Quantico, Range Clearance of Range 7, Range 15 CB/10-E/10R with 7 Road Gap

ERRG conducted operational range clearance and target removal and placement at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Quantico, Virginia from September 2012 through January 2013 for the Department of the Navy, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Washington.

The primary purpose of the project was to perform surface clearance and intrusive investigation to recover and dispose of munitions and explosives of concern (MEC), munitions debris, range-related debris, and low-level radioactive waste at Ranges 7 and 15 and the 7 Road Gap and 7 Road Gap Extension areas.

ERRG segregated and transported all ordnance and target debris to a designated area; conducted MEC demolition operations; managed ordnance and target debris recycling; performed target replacement and removal; and properly marked and recorded global positioning system locations of any low-level radioactive waste.

When necessary, MEC was disposed of by detonation in place. MEC that was safe to move was consolidated for explosive disposal. Engineering controls such as soil cover, sandbags, and blast attenuation devices were used during MEC disposal.
