Project Spotlight: Fiscal Year 2020 Pre-Demolition Survey at the U.S. Army Reserve Center CNMI, Garapan, Saipan
ERRG was retained by U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center Huntsville to perform a pre-demolition facility characterization survey of the Army and Air Force Exchange Services (Exchange) warehouse at the U.S. Army Reserve Center (USARC) Commonwealth Northern Mariana Islands in Garapan, Saipan. The Exchange warehouse is planned for demolition, and it was unknown if hazardous building materials were used in its construction or if contaminants were introduced into adjacent soil due to building practices.
ERRG performed a visual inspection, bulk material sampling, and limited soil sampling. Bulk material and soil samples were collected and sent for analysis at an analytical laboratory on the U.S. mainland. Bulk material samples were analyzed for asbestos, and a composite waste profiling sample was analyzed for RCRA-8 metals TCLP. Paint chip samples were analyzed for lead and PCBs. Soil samples were analyzed for RCRA-8 metals, PCBs, pesticides/insecticides, volatile organic compounds, and semi-volatile organic compounds.
The results of the investigation and a cost estimate for remediation were documented in a final report.
